Description: Diocesan Development & Welfare Society under the aegis of Manos Unidas celebrated Children's Day at St. Mary’s College, Allahabad on 17th November 2019. Children from all 20 NFE centers with full enthusiasm and zeal came in big number to celebrate their day. Approximately 384 children from all 20 NFE centers participated in this event whole heartedly. It was a fun-filled day for the children. For the programme two buses were arranged to pick the children from their centers and drop them to their respective places after the programme. Preparation for this day started 10 days before, children at every center found practicing for the day event, items they were engaged in were group dance, group song, skits etc. Children were also very happy to be the part of this event. On the occasion each center presented one item. At 10:00 a.m. the ‘Children’s Day’ programme started by a prayer song sung by our NFE center followed by welcome song “Sur Se Sur Milao”. Further an encouraging speech was given by Mrs. Alpana Chaurasia, one of our NFE teacher. She threw light on the life and achievements of Pandit Jawahar lal Nehru and advised the students to follow his teachings, in her speech she also focused on girl child education. Thereafter, children of NFE centers one by one beautifully presented their prepared items which added different beat and great fun to the cultural programme. The power-packed performance set the stage on fire. Post cultural programme students of St. Mary’s College presented some comedy acts which were enjoyed by the children very much, they laughed boisterously at their jokes. At 12:00 ‘O’ Clock the cultural programme got over thereafter children were given 30 minutes break where children were served some snacks and soft drinks as a refreshments. At 12:30 p.m. all the children were asked to be on the ground for the children’s sports, field arrangements were done by dividing the children in two groups of boys and girls separately, further these group of boys and the girls was divided into two groups such as ‘group A’ and ‘group B’. Group A consists of the children between 7 – 10 years and group B consists of children between 11 – 14 years. At 01:00 p.m. the sports started, two sports such as ‘Race’ and the ‘Frog Race’ were conducted for all the children in coordination with the teachers and caretakers of the institution. All the children with great enthusiasm and zeal participated in sports. At 3:00 p.m. children’s sports got over, later the prizes to the winners were distributed. One by one all the children who took first, second and third position in the competition received prizes from Rev. Fr. Babu Francis, Director, DDWS, Allahabad. Fr. Babu also appreciated the efforts been taken by the children in preparing their programmes and congratulated NFE teachers in putting lot of effort in bringing the new talents. All the children enjoyed the day and were happy to celebrate their day with vigor and enthusiasm. At the end children were given food packets and went back home with a hope that next year again the programme will bring great joy for them. After the sports food packets were distributed to all the children. On the occasion of ‘Children’s Day’ DDWS took an initiative to gift’ children a school bag which was distributed to every single child came for the programme. The campus was buzzing with excitement and joy. The day ended in a beautiful resonance lingering in everybody’s minds. The entire programme was applauded by everybody present and will always remain etched in the memory of one and all. Later all the children went back home with a hope that next year again the programme will bring great joy for them.
