DDWS is running Kasturba Gandhi Avasiya Balika Vidhlaya, Bithouli, Dhanupur residential school from last thirteen years enrolling 100 girls every year that provides education to girls who have never had a chance to go to school. The Kasturba Gandhi Avasiya Balika Vidyalaya (KGABV) scheme was launched by the Central Government of India in August, 2004 for setting up residential schools at upper primary level, which aims at providing education and other important skills to dropout girls in the age group of 11 to 14 years. The girls studying here belong to SC, ST, OBC and Minorities at elementary level under the scheme Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalyas. This vision is to raise the standards of education for the dropout girls and to strengthen them that they can compete in all fields; it’s very true that to be successful in life, what you need is only education. Due to economic vulnerability, especially among the socially backward classes girls are not sent to school and are busy doing household chores. Some girls who get an opportunity to attend primary education are taken off from school at early stage, thus it leads to low literacy rate. This is why the female literacy rate of the block was very low.

The main purpose of DDWS accepting this project was to enter into remote areas of Dhanupur block and work with these dropouts and never enrolled girls with poor background so that they could get an opportunity to study in residential school up to upper primary level free of cost.

The gender disparities still persist in rural areas and among disadvantaged communities. Looking at enrolment trends, there remain significant gaps in the enrolment of girls at the elementary level as compared to boys, especially at the upper primary levels. The objective of KGBV is to ensure that quality education is made feasible and accessible to the girls of disadvantaged groups of society by setting up residential schools with boarding facilities at elementary level.
